Hi, I’m Joyce — a Tokyo-based portrait and family photographer specializing in natural light, outdoor photographyin Japan.Born in Taiwan and raised in California, I later moved to Japan over a decade ago. Living across cultures has shaped how I see people, relationships, and everyday life, and it deeply influences my photography. I work with families, couples, and travelers visiting Tokyo, capturing honest, unposed moments that reflect real connection.I’m a mother of two boys (ages 8 and 2), and parenthood has fundamentally changed how I approach photography. I understand children’s rhythms, family dynamics, and the beauty hidden in everyday moments. My sessions are designed to feel calm, flexible, and pressure-free, especially for families traveling with young children.
My journey with photography began in high school with my first film camera. Over the years, it evolved from a creative outlet into a way of preserving memory. That purpose became even clearer when my eldest son was diagnosed with leukemia. Living through uncertainty reshaped my priorities and strengthened my belief that photographs are not about perfection, they are about presence.
Today, I specialize in family photography, couple portraits, and lifestyle sessions in Tokyo, using natural light and outdoor locations to create timeless, story-driven images. My work focuses on emotional authenticity rather than posed perfection.
In addition to photography, I share my love for cooking and baking through social media, documenting quiet kitchen moments and everyday rituals. This appreciation for slow living and sensory detail carries into my visual storytelling.
I am fluent in English, Mandarin Chinese, and Japanese, and I regularly work with both local families and international visitors. Whether you’re planning a family photo session in Tokyo, a couple shoot during your trip to Japan, or simply want to document this season of life, I aim to create images that feel natural, grounded, and deeply personal.
